Every year, the United Church Dorchester transforms itself into an interactive, welcoming space during Advent when several hundred folk come through the front door (for the occasion turned into Stable Doors!) to explore the Christmas story in an innovative way. Six ’Stations’ are set up for folk to explore, consider and think about the stages and characters of the Nativity narrative under the titles, Joseph, The Journey, The Shepherds, Mary, The Star and The strange Gifts, culminating in a final station where the church’s lovely ‘Quiet Room’ is transformed into a stable, complete with straw bales and a manger. Over the two week period individuals drop in for their own thoughtful explorations and large school groups come by arrangement too – which is anything but quiet!
Additionally the United Church has a marquee in the sanctuary to offer carers baby-changing and feeding facilities under its now familiar strapline of ‘Feed Me, Change Me, Love Me.’
