Government announcements over the weekend referred to the opening of places of worship starting from 15th June. Whilst it was clear from the statement that this was about private prayer rather than public worship, some media headlines did not reflect the limits of the provisions, and this has led to some confusion.
In response to the latest developments, John Proctor has produced a document for the URC around the opening of churches for private prayer. You can find it at: https://urc.org.uk/images/private-prayer-080620.pdf Please do read this, and if your church is thinking about the possibility of opening please follow the guidelines produced carefully.
We realise that many churches are not making any plans of this sort, but it is good for us all to be aware of how the URC as a whole is responding to the latest changes.
